Canon 12
Overview
This canon governs clergy who leave their assigned seat without episcopal permission and penalizes a bishop who receives them contrary to the ruling.
1Canon Twelve.
2If a bishop, presbyter, deacon, or anyone of clerical rank leaves his seat, goes to another seat, and remains in that place for many days, having departed without the bishop’s permission, we command that he shall never minister there.
3All the more, if the bishop sends to him that he should return to his place and he does not obey him, he shall be deposed from his office and shall approach in the place where he is as a layman.
4If the bishop with whom he is staying receives him as one of the clergy and makes void this judgment that we have issued, that bishop too shall be deposed as a teacher of transgression of the law.
