Statute 13
Overview
Bartholomew urges generosity, obedience to the received teaching, and readiness for the coming day of God; Peter then directs the brethren to the Scriptures, and the apostles appoint him to speak.
1Bartholomew said: I beseech you, O our brethren, while you still have a good opportunity and are truly able to do good to all, do not neglect to give while you have anything to give. For the day of God is near, and all things, both visible and secret, will pass away; and God will come, and his reward will be with him.
2Be doers of the law yourselves and teachers of yourselves, as God taught you. Keep what was taught to you, and do not add to it or take away from it.
3Peter said: O brethren, the Scriptures teach you concerning the remaining words and statutes, while we speak what was commanded to us.
4And they all said: Peter shall speak.
