Canon 25
Overview
This canon sets out the relationship between the chief bishop and the other bishops, limits episcopal action to proper jurisdictions, and prescribes deposition for unauthorized appointments.
1Canon 25.
2The chief of bishops ought to know the bishops of every nation. They in turn ought to know who is first among them and call him chief. They shall undertake no important matter without the counsel of the one who is greater. Each one shall perform the work proper to his appointment and for the people within his jurisdiction.
3But the one appointed chief over them shall do nothing without the counsel of all the bishops. In this way there will be one fellowship, and God will be glorified in Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
4A bishop shall not presume to appoint anyone outside his jurisdiction, in districts that do not belong to him. If he is found to have done this without the counsel of the head of that place, its districts, and its cities, both he and those whom he appointed shall be deposed.
