Chapter 41

Overview

A partially damaged prayer concerning chrism, followed by directions to recite the Lord’s Prayer and for the priest to face east and praise the Lord.

1O Lord God, Lord of the whole creation, you have granted us the sweet fragrance of this chrism, even to all the nations that believe in you. [The text concerning the efficacy of the chrism and those baptized is damaged.]

2After this, he shall stand and recite the prayer that our Lord taught: “Our Father in heaven,” through to its end.

3Then let the priest turn toward the east, raise his eyes to heaven, and say, “Glorify the Lord, for the Lord is good. Sing to his name, for it is [unclear]; his mercy is forever.”
