Overview
Peter gives a series of prohibitions concerning violence, sexual wrongdoing, occult practices, dishonesty, divided speech, greed, pride, and hatred, followed by instructions for responding to others.
1Peter said: “You shall not take life. You shall not commit adultery or corrupt young children. You shall not steal. You shall not be a soothsayer, an astrologer, or a magician. You shall not cause an abortion, nor shall you kill a child after it is born.
2“You shall not covet any of your neighbor’s possessions. You shall not hate anyone or bear false witness. You shall not speak evil against anyone. You shall not think about doing evil. You shall not be double-hearted or double-tongued, because whoever is double-tongued is a deadly snare.
3“Your words shall not be empty, and you shall not be false. You shall not be a hypocrite, a lover of great possessions, a defrauder, unjust, evil-hearted, or proud. You shall not devise evil against your companion. You shall not hate anyone, but reprove that person. Pray for some, show mercy to others, and love still others much more than yourself.”
