Statute 33

Overview

This statute directs the laying on of a hand and prayer for catechumens and addresses the standing of a catechumen who dies for the name of Jesus Christ before baptism.

1Statute 33. Concerning the laying of a hand upon a catechumen.

2After the prayer, the teacher shall dismiss them. If the one who teaches belongs to the church, or if he is a layman, he shall do likewise.

3If a catechumen is arrested for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, he shall not doubt concerning the testimony he gives. For if they overpower, injure, and kill him before he receives baptism for the forgiveness of his sin, he shall be justified, because he was baptized in his own blood.
