Statute 29
Overview
This statute lists additional occupations, offices, practices, and forms of conduct that require abandonment or exclusion from the congregation.
1Statute 29: Concerning other persons.
2Anyone who is a soldier among the believers or among those under instruction, a star-gazer, a magician, or the like, a magistrate bearing the sword, a chief of prefects, or one clothed in red shall give this up or be rejected.
3A catechumen or believer who wishes to become a soldier shall be rejected, because it is far from God.
4An adulteress, a man without pity, or a man who does what is not proper to mention shall be rejected, because they are alien and unclean, and it is not fitting to bring them in to be ranked among the congregation of the faithful.
5If anyone is a star-gazer, a diviner by the sun, a soothsayer, an interpreter of dreams, a seducer of the people, one who wears clothing as lascivious ornament, or a maker of potions, he shall give this up or be rejected.
