Canon 23
Overview
This canon appoints seven ministers chosen from the people for service in the sanctuary and describes their qualifications and liturgical, pastoral, and teaching duties.
1Command concerning the number of priests.
2There shall be seven ministers chosen from the people for the ministry of the sanctuary. They shall be good and upright, wise in wisdom and knowledge, God-fearing, and acquainted with its order, for they are the ones who speak concerning prayer.
3They shall consecrate the offering and reconcile the people in salvation and peace, for they are truly sons of God, as it is said in the Holy Gospel.
4They shall also be ministers of prophecy and mediators. They shall not be occupied with the work of the world; rather, their work shall be his ministry, for the knowledge of his law.
