Canon 81

1Abtelis, Canon 81. Let the faithful keep these books. These are the names of those that we have prescribed for the faithful in Christ, from the Old and from the New. This is the book of the account that came down from God the Father and the Holy Spirit, namely the order numbered eighty-one concerning the books, together with the book of the Synodos that we recounted to Clement.

2The Old also speaks about the later, and the later is the fulfillment of the former. The former bore witness concerning the latter. One matter comes from one word, from one utterance: God is its [laḥāku] and its creator through his Word and his Spirit.

3First is the Law, which belongs to the Old. In it are five books. The first book is Genesis. The second book concerns the departure of the children of Israel from Egypt. The third book is the Book of the Priests. The fourth book concerns the numbering of the children of Israel. The fifth book is the Second Law.

4The book of Joshua son of Nave. The book of Judges. The book of Ruth. The four books of Kings, and the Remnants of Kings. The two books of Ezra. The book of Zephaniah. The book of Malachi. The book of Micah. The book of Joel. The book of Makbeb, son of Dophonia. The book of Job the Righteous. The one hundred and fifty Psalms of David. The Proverbs of Solomon. The Book of the Church. The Song of Songs. The twelve Minor Prophets. The book of Habakkuk. The book of Isaiah. The book of Jeremiah. The book of Ezekiel. The book of Daniel. The book of Hosea. The book of Zechariah son of Berechiah.

5The book by which you shall teach your children, namely the Wisdom of Solomon. Judith. The Book of Kufale, in three books. Joshua son of Sirach, the scribe of Solomon son of David. The twelve Minor Prophets. The twelve Major Prophets. Here the number of their books from the former Law is completed.

6Our books also—those belonging to us, the apostles—from the New Law are the four Gospels: that which Matthew narrated, that which Mark narrated, that which Luke narrated, and that which John narrated. Next, the Acts belonging to us, the apostles. Two of Peter; three of John; one of James; one of Jude; and fourteen letters of Paul. The Apocalypse, that is, the Vision of John. The fifty-six [Məqwam]. The eight books of Clement from the apostles. In them is the Preparation; what they left behind is not to go out.

7Fathers, know the message of Clement and everything I commanded you in it, O fathers—bishops, [pappas], chiefs of the [pappas], and chief priests—through the hand of Clement, the disciple of Peter the apostle. These eight books are not to be shown to all the faithful, because of the law and order contained in them. No one is to give commands by means of them except leaders appointed from among the priests.
