Abtilis

Canon 75

Overview

This canon addresses the ordination of men with physical defects or those who have been castrated, distinguishing between those who are naturally so and those who have been healed, and setting conditions for their service.

1Abṭelis, 85. If a man is a eunuch or is mutilated, he shall not be ordained a priest, nor shall he be numbered among the clergy. But if he has been healed and lives, he may be numbered among the clergy. But if he is one who does not desire the priesthood, let him be ordained by his wisdom and his mind according to the order of the church.
