Abtilis

Canon 48

Overview

This canon prohibits clergy from abstaining from meat and wine during feast days and Sundays, warning that such asceticism aligns them with enemies of Christ.

1Abṭelis, 48. If a bishop, presbyter, or deacon abstains from eating meat and drinking wine during the days of feasts and on the days of the Sabbath, let him be removed from the church, for he has become a cause of corruption for the people and has allied himself with the enemies of Christ.
