Canon 16
Overview
This canon prohibits a man who has married two women, or who has taken a second wife after the death or divorce of the first, from being ordained. It also addresses the case of a man who marries a virgin after having been married to another woman, stating that such a person is unfit for clerical office.
1Abṭelis, 16. If a man has married two women, or if he has taken a second wife after the death of the first, or after the divorce of the first, and has married another, let him not be made a bishop, a presbyter, a deacon, or a reader, nor be raised to the rank of the priesthood.
