Statute 32

Overview

This statute regulates the prayers, exchange of the kiss, separation of groups, and head coverings of catechumens and believers.

1Statute 32: Concerning the prayer and kiss of one who hears instruction.

2When the teacher has finished the admonition, the catechumens shall pray by themselves, apart from the believers. The women shall stand in their own place in the church. The believing women shall pray separately, as shall the women catechumens.

3When the prayer is finished, the catechumens shall not kiss one another together with the believers, because their kiss is not yet pure.

4The believers shall kiss one another: man shall kiss man, and woman shall kiss woman. Males shall not kiss females.

5All the women shall have their heads veiled with a pallium or a mantle, and not merely with a [sindon], because that is not permitted to them.
