Statute 20

Overview

This statute affirms that the offering is Christ’s body and blood, recalls the words spoken over the bread and wine, and records a brief exchange concerning Maryam.

1Concerning the reminder that the offering is the body of Christ, and concerning what follows it.

2Endreyas said: We have already commanded what was said concerning the offering: that it is the body of Christ and his precious blood. We declare this to you with certainty.

3Yuhanes said: Have you forgotten, brothers, that on the day when our Lord offered the bread and wine, he said, “This is my body, and this is my blood”? For he did not command that these should be treated as ordinary things.

4[MartSl] said concerning Maryam: See, she is laughing.

5Maryam said: That was not why I laughed, for our Lord said to us, “It is good that the sick should be healed by the whole.”
