1Then the Jews, the elders, and the priests, realizing how much wrong they had done to themselves, began to mourn and say, “Woe because of our sins! The judgment and the end of Jerusalem are near!”

2But I and my companions were grieving. Wounded in mind, we hid because they were seeking us as wrongdoers and as people who wanted to burn the temple. In addition to all this, we fasted as we sat mourning and weeping night and day until the Sabbath.
