Canon 56
Overview
A concluding apostolic command to bishops concerning the synod, setting out the consequences of observing or rejecting it, followed by a blessing and a closing identification involving Clement.
1Commandment Fifty-Six: Concerning the Commandment of the Apostles. This we command you, bishops, concerning the synod.
2For if you hold fast to it, you will become wise and be saved, and peace will be yours forever. But if you do not obey and do not accept what is within it, what is within it will mock you, and there will be sorrow among you forever. Afterward, the condemnation befitting you will overtake you because of your rebellion.
3May God himself, his only Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, Maker of all creation, establish each and every one of you in peace and help you in every good thing, as you remain unshaken and keep yourselves free from defilement, having no sin. May he make you worthy of the place of eternal life through his beloved Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, the Living One, our Savior. Through him, glory be to you—to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit—forever and ever. Amen.
4This is the Synod of the Apostles, which they sent with Clement. Glory to God forever and ever. Amen.
