8… prayed that a messenger be sent to Philippi. For the Corinthians were greatly troubled concerning Paul, fearing that he would depart from the world before it was time.

9Certain men had come to Corinth—Simon and Cleobius—saying that there is no resurrection of the flesh, but only of the spirit; that the human body is not God’s creation; that God did not create the world and does not know it; that Jesus Christ was not crucified, but that it was an appearance; and that he was not born of Mary or of the seed of David.

10In short, they had taught many things in Corinth, deceiving many other people and themselves. Therefore, when the Corinthians heard that Paul was at Philippi, they sent a letter to Paul in Macedonia by the deacons Threptus and Eutychus. The letter was as follows.
