Canon 39

1Abṭelis, 39. Let the property of the bishop be separate from the property of the church, so that the bishop may be able to manage his own property as he wishes, and to give it to whom he wishes, and to inherit it to whom he wishes and loves from his people, or to inherit it to the church. Let him do likewise with his own property, and let him not mix his property with the property of the church, nor the property of the church with his property. For if a bishop has a wife, or a son, or children, or servants, or another, and he does not permit them to take or help him to give it, and he inherits it as he loves. This is right before God. For if there is a command that the property of the church and the property of the bishop are not to be mixed, and they are not to be counted, and the heads of the bishop are not to be mixed, except for what is in it, and the people of the church are not to be mixed with the property of the bishop, nor the people of the bishop with the property of the church, except for what he loves and believes. Let the people of his house and his servants not be mixed with the property of the bishop and the property of the church, and let it be a reproach and a slander and a bad report for the bishop after his death, and let it be an error for the people of God.
