Overview
This canon details the procedure for electing and consecrating a bishop, requiring the consent of the people and the participation of at least two or three bishops.
1Canon of Abtilis: If a man is brought forward to be made a bishop, let this be done with the consent of all his people, and let a bishop or a chief of bishops consecrate him. And let two or three bishops be present for his consecration, for this is the one who will ordain the grace and the consecration of the priest and the deacon, and he who is inferior to that bishop alone shall not consecrate them. And let them be consecrated within their rank according to the order of their priesthood, and let this be done with the consent of those who participate with them.
